NEED TO KNOW

A Covid-19 polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test looks for the Covid-19 virus on a swab sample collected from the back of the throat and nose. It works by detecting the genetic material in the virus called RNA

  • PCR swab tests look for genetic fragments (RNA) of the virus.
  • Rapid Antigen tests look for proteins produced by the virus called antigens. They may miss more positive cases than PCR swab tests, but they can be done quickly and easily

You must check the entry requirements of the country you are travelling to before deciding which test you need. Each Country will have its own requirements. Check on the following link : https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice

Entry requirements to the Country you are going to will advice that you must provide evidence of a negative result from a PCR or Rapid Antigen Test within a certain time of arrival. It is best to do your test as close to the beginning of the time interval. This allows for any unforeseen changes in Country entry requirements.
